Department of Transportation and its predecessor agency possessed a sophisticated cartographic unit where they created a variety of maps for their purposes and for other state agencies and local governments. These maps are a variety that either directly or tangentially relate to transportation functions. The maps pertain to numerous subjects including the state's canal system, coastal areas, community water systems, power pools, gasoline facilities, Finger Lakes bicycle touring facilities, North Country trail maps, Adirondack Northway motorist assistance facilities, North-South Expressway, State Office Campus, Empire State Plaza, Adirondack Park, Cranberry Lake, Sacandaga Lake, Lake George, municipal boundaries, and the New York State Thruway.
